THE SCIENTIFIC QUESTIONS
Questions that came from practice
Measurement reliability. How consistent are force-plate measures such as the countermovement jump and isometric mid-thigh pull across repeated sessions, and what is the smallest change that exceeds measurement error?
Interpretation. How consistently do clinicians, coaches and students interpret the same movement data, and does structured education change that?
Movement literacy. Can people learn to understand objective movement information without treating a number as a diagnosis?
Clinician and workforce education. How can measurement-informed teaching help allied-health and athletics professionals communicate across disciplines?
Community implementation. What helps movement education stay accessible and continue beyond an isolated clinical episode?
These are research-development questions, not completed studies. No findings are reported on this page.

RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT
SCIENTIFIC GOVERNANCE
Four activities, kept separate
Clinical care is licensed physical therapy under Illinois scope of practice and informed consent. Education builds movement literacy. Program evaluation and quality improvement use aggregate, non-identifiable information. Human-subjects research happens only under a finalized protocol, an appropriate IRB determination and research-specific consent.

Clinical and Scientific Inquiry
STAGE 01 OF 08 • PROFESSIONAL-HISTORY EVIDENCE
Sports and orthopedic practice generated sustained questions about movement quality, neuromuscular control, recovery, athlete development, communication, and the limits of episodic rehabilitation.
Theme: Movement science, neuromuscular control, rehabilitation, athlete development
Evidence: Professional-history evidence; expanding contemporaneous documentation. External verification required.

2013–2015
Community Health and Movement Infrastructure Gap
STAGE 04 OF 08 • PROFESSIONAL-HISTORY EVIDENCE
The public-health crisis disrupted movement-support systems and expanded the research question from individual rehabilitation toward community movement literacy, continuity, access, education, social connection, and efficient use of professional resources.
Theme: Community health, movement literacy, implementation, access
Evidence: Professional-history milestone; supporting evidence being assembled. External verification required.

2020
Objective Measurement and Data Infrastructure
STAGE 07 OF 08 • RESEARCH-DEVELOPMENT
The research platform expanded objective measurement workflows, structured data intake, force-time variables, longitudinal concepts, movement-literacy education, and research-readiness infrastructure.
Theme: VALD/DorsaVi, objective measurement, data architecture, longitudinal learning
Evidence: Documented research-development and technology-integration record

2025
Movement Technology and Prevention Model
STAGE 02 OF 08 • EXTERNAL VERIFICATION REQUIRED
Professional work expanded toward a technology-supported, neurologically informed movement and prevention model integrating movement assessment, neuromuscular re-education, functional testing, athlete education, and proactive risk-reduction concepts.
Theme: Technology-supported movement assessment, neuromuscular development, prevention
Evidence: Candidate-reported milestone; contemporaneous corroboration being assembled. External verification required.

2016
Systems-Level Education and Community Development
STAGE 05 OF 08 • PROFESSIONAL-HISTORY EVIDENCE
Professional and educational development increasingly focused on scalable movement literacy, technology-supported learning, resilience, community access, and continuity beyond isolated clinical encounters. This period is not presented as a federally funded or formally approved research study.
Theme: Community access, technology-enhanced learning and continuity of movement education
Evidence: Professional-history period; contemporaneous source evidence being reconciled. External verification required.

2021–2023
Federal and Scholarly Research Maturation
STAGE 08 OF 08 • RESEARCH-DEVELOPMENT
The program matured through professional grant authorship, federal-grant research architecture, statistical and reproducibility planning, data-governance and research data-system planning, workforce education, community implementation, female-baseball research development, publication, and formal independent research-practice preparation.
Theme: Grant authorship, statistics, governance, research education, community implementation

2026
Refinement Through Practice and Education
STAGE 03 OF 08 • PROFESSIONAL-HISTORY EVIDENCE
Clinical and community teaching further developed movement-science questions through biomechanics, functional testing, student mentorship, athletic education, and interprofessional communication. These activities represent professional practice and education, not a claim of approved human-subjects research.

2017–2019
Independent Research Program Formalization
STAGE 06 OF 08 • DOCUMENTED

2024
RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT TIMELINE
Eight stages, 2013–2026
Read left to right. Each stage keeps the evidence classification recorded in our research portfolio: professional history describes practice and teaching, not formal research; documented and research development stages are supported by dated records; external verification required means corroboration is still being assembled.

METHODS AND MEASUREMENT
A reliability-first measurement framework
Before a change in a number is interpreted, the error around that number has to be known. These methods are in preparation; none has been applied in a research study.
Force-time variables: countermovement jump peak force and net impulse; isometric mid-thigh pull peak force; rate of force development (0–100 ms, 0–200 ms) only where data-quality conditions are met; interlimb symmetry index.
Measurement error: intraclass correlation (ICC 2,1, absolute agreement), coefficient of variation, standard error of measurement and minimal detectable change (MDC95).
Reproducibility: locked endpoint dictionary, version-controlled analysis plan and independent statistical review before any study begins.
Interpretation boundary: asymmetry is not judged against arbitrary thresholds. Measurement informs conversation. It does not diagnose.

THE RESEARCH EVIDENCE PATHWAY
From practice to proposed evaluation
1. Professional questions. Sports, orthopedic and teaching practice (2013–2023) raised the questions above.
2. Methods development. Measurement protocols, reliability planning and governance are documented (2024–2026).
3. Educational implementation. The methods are taught, not tested, through published programs: Science to Sport: VALD Measurement Literacy, the workshop catalog, community events and The Recovery Room on Wheels.
4. Proposed scientific evaluation. Not yet conducted. It requires a finalized protocol, independent scientific and statistical review, an IRB determination and research-specific consent.
Participation in education programs is not research participation, and program records are not research data.
